40th anniversary is celebrated
A day of celebration is scheduled for Sunday, 28 May in Piazzetta Pompilio Verago. Jesolo in fact celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Carabiniere Monument, a solemn recollection dedicated to the work of the Force. The programme includes the gathering at 8.30 am. This will be followed at 9.30 a.m. by the flag-hoisting and wreath-laying, followed by the Holy Mass at 10 a.m. and greetings to the civil and military authorities around 11 a.m. Pompilio Verago, to whom the square is dedicated, was a Carabiniere born in Cavazuccherina (Jesolo’s old name) on 3 September 1896 and died in the city on 9 December 1978. During the 11th Battle of the Isonzo (17 August-29 September 1917), during the First World War, he was awarded the Silver Medal for Military Valour.
